https://thezimbabwedaily.comDr Samuel Musarika is the Editor of The Zimbabwe Daily, where he leads editorial direction and oversees the publication’s social media strategy. His current role focuses on rebuilding The Zimbabwe Daily as a strong digital media platform with a particular emphasis on political commentary, public accountability, satire and social media engagement.
Samuel was involved with The Zimbabwe Daily from its early formation, but later stepped away to pursue academic studies and attend to personal and family commitments. During his absence, The Zimbabwe Daily continued under different personnel, but gradually lost momentum and struggled to reach its full potential. In January 2026, Samuel rejoined the publication with a renewed vision and a sharper focus on social media.
This shift was deliberate. Zimbabwe’s media audience has changed significantly, with many internet users accessing news and political content mainly through Facebook, TikTok and other social platforms rather than through traditional websites. Social media bundles and platform-specific data packages have also shaped how Zimbabweans consume information. Samuel’s strategy has therefore been to take The Zimbabwe Daily directly to where the audience already is, using social media as the primary vehicle for reach, engagement and political discussion.
Under his renewed leadership, The Zimbabwe Daily has adopted a bold and unapologetic editorial voice. Samuel believes that strong political commentary is necessary in a country where public institutions, constitutionalism and democratic accountability are under pressure. His work combines political analysis, satire, cartoons, public commentary and civic engagement, with the aim of encouraging Zimbabweans to question power and participate more actively in national debate.
Samuel is not new to the Zimbabwean media landscape. He has been involved in digital publishing and political media for many years, including work connected to The Zimbabwe Mail, where he contributed as a web developer and assistant editor. Because of Zimbabwe’s difficult political environment at the time, much of his work was done anonymously. That anonymity offered a measure of safety, but it also meant that his contribution to Zimbabwean online media remained largely behind the scenes.
Around 2011, discussions within The Zimbabwe Mail led to the idea of creating a separate publication with a different editorial direction. The Zimbabwe Daily was developed as part of that wider media vision, with Samuel involved in the technical and editorial groundwork behind the scenes. The original plan included bringing in an established journalist to provide editorial leadership, but that arrangement did not materialise. Samuel remained involved in digital media work and later continued with The Zimbabwe Daily after his association with The Zimbabwe Mail ended.
Samuel combines media experience with a strong academic background. He is trained in environmental science, soil science and climate-related disciplines, and holds advanced academic qualifications. His scientific training informs his editorial approach, particularly his emphasis on evidence, systems, consequences and long-term national planning. This background also gives him a wider perspective on governance, development, public infrastructure, climate, agriculture and the social impact of policy failure.
Today, Samuel’s ambition is to grow The Zimbabwe Daily into a serious, influential and modern Zimbabwean media platform. His focus is not only on reporting or commentary, but also on building a space where political satire, public criticism and civic debate can reach ordinary Zimbabweans in a language and format they understand. He believes that criticising bad leadership is not hatred of Zimbabwe, but an expression of love for the country and a belief that Zimbabwe deserves better.
As Editor, Samuel Musarika brings together journalism, digital media, political commentary, social media strategy and academic discipline. His goal is to help restore The Zimbabwe Daily’s relevance, expand its audience and establish it as a strong voice in Zimbabwean public discourse.
