AMBITIOUS Tanzania Premier League side Azam FC are banking on their new signings, who include Zimbabwe international striker Prince Dube, as they bid to wrestle the championship from Simba SC in the 2020-2021 race, which starts on Sunday.

Azam FC, who are undergoing a massive transformation, are also home to the Zimbabwean duo of Bruce Kangwa and Never Tigere, who recently extended his contract with the Chamazi-based side.

Azam FC finished third last season, without a trophy, but club chief Abdulkarim Amin believes the new singings will transform Azam FC into champions.

The highly rated Dube, who joined Azam from Highlanders last month, is one of the players expected to shine in Tanzania this season.

The 23-year-old Dube scored on his debut when Azam beat KMC FC 1-0 in a pre-season friendly on August 27.

He is one of the three Zimbabweans in Azam’s 2020-201 squad unveiled Thursday.

Some of the new signings include Ayoub Lyanga, who joined from Coastal Union; Ally Niyonzima (Rayon Sports); Awesu Ally Awesu (Kagera Sugar); and Thiery Akono Akono, who was signed from Cameroonian side  AS Fortune.

These signings excite Azam chief executive officer, Amin, who told on Friday morning that his side was now ready to wrestle the title from Simba SC, who have won the championship in the last three seasons.

“If you look at our new signings, we did the best we could,” Amin told

“We also want to make sure that we end the season with a trophy, not any trophy, but we want to win the league and take part in the CAF Champions League,” said Amin.

Azam, who last won the championship back in 2014, begin their 2020-2021 campaign with a home fixture against Polisi Tanzania on Monday.
