Peace is prevailing in most parts of the country as people ignored the illegal demonstrations which had been slated for today by the activists and some opposition political parties.

July 31 had been set by the opposition to effect regime change disguised as an anti-corruption demonstration. Roadblocks have been mounted on all entry points into cities and towns with security forces screening motorists.

The Herald has established that during this morning the situation was normal with people doing their normal activities while others decided to stay home for their safety.

Few people in Bulawayo city centre

In Harare the situation is peaceful with very few people in essential services seen in the Central Business District. Peace is also prevailing in Harare’s suburban areas where people are going about their normal businesses.

In Bindura, Mashonaland Central, there are few people in the CBD where only a few people mostly essential staff were seen on their way to work. Few cars could be seen on the way to town, most shops in Bindura town are closed and the streets.

In Mashonaland West people are getting on their business with peace prevailing in all seven districts. It is business as usual today in Manicaland with people going about their business. Supermarkets and pharmacies are open. However, most people have chosen to stay at home.

Life is going on as normal in most parts of Chitungwiza as people ignored the calls to engage in the illegal demonstration. Zupco buses and commuter omnibuses are operating the usual routes as normal, although there are few people travelling.

Security forces at check point in Mutare this morning

At Chigovanyika Shopping Centre, Huruyadzo, Zengeza 2 and 4 business is usual with supermarkets open. Vendors are selling their products at ease while the Illegal money changers are milling around at their usual hotspots and in some instances running  away when they see security officers vehicles on patrol.

There is however, increased heavy presence of security forces to ensure peace and protect innocent residents.
